SN 3046. Cal. 7.65mm. Very scarce Walther Model HP in Cal. 7.65mm, double action, with painted sights and plastic grips in an orig shipping box. This gun falls into a standard serial range from the 29XX-31XX, that was the first time the double action 7.65mm P38s were produced in sequential quantity, rather than on a single, special order basis. Production was in 1940. This example is a standard configuration P38 with 5" bbl having drift adjustable front sight (painted white) and fixed rear sight (painted red). Left side of slide marked with the usual Walther banner followed by 2-line address that includes "Cal. 7,65 m/m" and suffixed by "Mod. HP". Safety marked with a white highlighted "S" and red highlighted "F". Eagle/N marking on right side of slide, right side of bbl and right side of frame. Full SNs under bbl, on slide (internally marked by firing pin housing), on right side of frame above trigger guard, with the last three digits repeated on the locking block. Fitted with black plastic checkered grips, left panel rectangularly recessed for the lanyard ring, each internally marked with four encircled codings. Magazine marked "P.38" near bottom of left side. Major and minor components with a bright salt blue, with the locking block in-the-white. Complete with an orig wood grained cardboard shipping box whose lid has been imprinted with a gold image of the pistol along with the designation "HP" and the Walther banner. On the right side of the lid the SN "10055" has been crossed out and replaced with "10292". PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Collection Of Noted Expert And Author Warren Buxton. CONDITION: Approximately 90% bright orig salt blue, with usual sharp edge wear and a few irregular areas of spotty discoloration on the right side of the bbl and the right side of the slide. About 50% of the orig white paint is on the front sight; 95% of orig red paint on the rear sight. Surprisingly strong front strap. Excellent orig grips. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. Very good shipping box with numerous scuffs, staining and scattered losses. A very desirable pistol, particularly as initial production of this variation was limited to fewer than 150 guns, and even better with an orig Walther shipping box! 51568-69 LMA C&R
