SN 2991. Cal. 7.65mm. Very scarce Walther Mod P38 in Cal 7.65mm, double action, with plastic grips. This gun falls into a standard serial range from the 29XX-31XX, which was the first time the double action 7.65mm P38s were produced in sequential quantity, rather than on a single order basis. Most pistols in this group were Mod. HPs but there were also a few Mod. P38s as per this example, all made in 1940. Standard configuration P38 with 5" bbl having drift adjustable front sight and fixed rear sight. Left side of slide marked with the usual Walther banner followed by 2-line address that includes "Cal. 7,65 m/m" and suffixed by "Mod. P38". Safety marked with a white highlighted "S" and red highlighted "F". The Eagle/N marking on right side of slide, right side of bbl and right side of frame. Full SN under bbl, on slide (internally marked by firing pin housing), on right side of frame above trigger guard, with the last three digits repeated on the locking block. Fitted with black plastic checkered grips, left panel round recessed for the lanyard ring, each internally marked with four encircled codings. Mag unmarked. Major and minor components with a salt blue, matte finish, that appears as a restoration. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Collection Of Noted Expert And Author Warren Buxton. CONDITION: Approximately 97% dull restored blue with sharp edge wear, thinning over the coverplate and front strap. Excellent orig grips. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics.
