SN S3. Cal .45 ACP. Highly customized P-38 to fire .45 ACP, marked to caliber and with an American Eagle, in factory presentation case. In what was undoubtedly a very time intensive project, someone customized a standard configuration P-38 by using a larger diameter bbl, recontouring the slide bridge, expanding the face of slide and opening up the magazine well to accept a modified 1911 magazine on a gun that otherwise had standard dimensions. Once the machine work was completed, the left side of slide was marked to reflect cal and steel frame was renumbered. This pistol now has a 5" bbl with drift adjustable front sight marked "+0.25" and standard rear sight. Left side of slide is marked with Walther banner and two line Walther address that now stipulates "Cal. 11.25mm". Usual S/F safety detentes. An American Eagle has been marked on right side of slide. Heavily refinished frame has been renumbered. "S3" and year dated "54" on left side. "Made in West Germany" on right side. Fitted with standard black plastic commercial panels that show a missing lanyard loop. Heavily polished magazine is marked "11.25mm" on bottom of floorplate. Complete with blue leatherette Walther factory presentation case whose lid is lined in silk with silver Walther banner. Velvet lined base bordered with cord. Secured with two spring loaded non-keyed chrome-plated locks. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Collection of Noted Expert and Author Warren Buxton. CONDITION: Custom refurbished pistol retains at least 99% of hasty reblue. Grips are virtually new. Minimal magazine wear. Bright bore with shallow rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. Exterior of case near excellent. Lid liner separated from top of case and lining material shows staining and losses, particularly at pressure points. *Warning: As there was no attempt to beef up the frame this pistol may be dangerous to shoot. If that is the intent, THE NEW OWNER NEEDS TO HAVE THE GUN CHECKED OUT BY A COMPETENT GUNSMITH BEFORE SHOOTING. 51568-50 LMA C&R
