Documented and Rare Walther Model MP Semi-Automatic Prototype Pistol Serial Number 101 in 9 MM Luger This is an exceptionally rare example of a Walther Model MP experimental pistol in 9mm parabellum. This pistol was designed/developed in the early 1930s some time after the initial development of the original Walther Model PP, early concealed hammer PPs, and later external hammer large frame PPs, but prior to the design and development of the later Walther Model AP pistol. This pistol is shown and discussed on page 68 of the book "Walther Volume III" 1908-1980 by Rankin and pages 46-47 of "The P.38 Pistol Volume I" by Buxton. This rare prototype pistol is almost a direct copy of the original Walther Model PP only slightly larger and longer with a wider grip frame to accommodate the 9 mm cartridge. It still retains the external hammer and is a direct blowback action design. As noted in the reference book, this example is serial numbered "101" on the right front edge of the frame. The left side of the slide is marked in with the traditional "WALTHER" inside a banner followed by the two-line factory address of: "Waffenfabrik Walther Zella-Mehlis (Thur)"/Walther's Patent 9 m/m" followed by "Mod. MP" for Military Pistole. The slide is fitted with the early style fixed front and drift adjustable rear sight. The bottom of the frame is fitted with the magazine release, and it has a large slide lock/release lever on the left side of the frame. This exceptional pistol is fitted with a set of unnumbered, two-piece wraparound checkered walnut grips with full length checkering on the sides. Manufacturer: Walther Model: Mp BBL: 4 1/4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm parabellum Finish: blue Grips: walnut checkered Serial Number: 101 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very fine with 98% plus of the restored blue finish on the slide with 90% original blue on the frame with some light browning on the front and rear grip straps. Some light pitting is visible under the blue on the right rear side of the slide, forward of the serrations. The grips are in very fine condition with nice, distinct checkering on both sides mixed with a couple minor nicks in the checkering on the left side with some general light handling marks or pressure dents on the right side. The markings are clear and sharp. What more can we say other than this is one of two examples known to exist, so don't miss the chance to acquire this extraordinary prototype Walther pistol for your collection!
