Volkswagen AG
On the 28th May 1934 the car company Adler, Auto Union, Daimler-Benz and Opel create a working group for the development of the Volkswagen. The design office of Ferdinand Porsche was commissioned, who plays an important role in the development of the Volkswagen. Porsche followed closely the debate about the Volkswagen and came to the conclusion that only he can build this car. Even Hitler put his whole hope into Porsche, which he met in 1934 and came to appreciate. On the 26th May 1938 the foundation stone of the Volkswagen was laid but the fear of war starts and with the beginning of the war and the dream of a mass production of the Volkswagen was no longer to realize. Now the new factory had to produce weapons and took orders from the Wehrmacht, the Luftwaffe or the SS. Ferdinand Porsche developed military variants of the Volkswagens such as the military utility vehicle. On the 17th February 1972 VW is manufacture world champion: With 15,007,034 assembled cars of the VW Beetle it breaks the production record. In 1973 the first VW Passat was launched on the market. In January 1974 the production of the VW Golf follows. The compact sedan became rapidly the best seller and gets the legitimate successor to the legendary Beetle.
