Here's a great item ... Very Vintage Japanese Temple Bells Their use goes back centuries, and are known by various names, which, for that, we go to the Wikipedia; Bonsh? (Japanese: ???, Buddhist bells), also known as tsurigane (????, hanging bells) or ?gane (???, great bells) are large bells found in Buddhist temples throughout Japan, used to summon the monks to prayer and to demarcate periods of time. Rather than containing a clapper, bonsh? are struck from the outside, using either a handheld mallet or a beam suspended on ropes. Ours are in excellent condition, with a floral motif in which colors still vibrant, some wear consistent with their age, and, we don't have the striker for it (which should be easy enought to find one - e.g. a piece of wood, or vibraphone mallet would likely work okay). This is a great get for anyone with an Oriental Decor in their home (or garden), as well as a major score for the collector of Bells and Chimes.
