U.S. Colt Artillery Model Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter and Rock Island Arsenal Sales Receipt From 1895 to 1903 a number of "US" marked Single Action Army revolvers like this one were returned to either the Colt factory or Springfield Armory where they were modified to 5 1/2 inch barrel length, dismantled and refinished, often with little regard to which gun the refinished parts came from, resulting in a mix of serial numbers and markings. The serial numbers are mixed on these altered models, and they were remarked by inspectors of the era. This revolver is serial numbered "93587" on the frame, "121000" on the trigger guard, "94607" on the back strap and "9080" on the cylinder. There is a "P/D.F.C." on the underside of the barrel, and "D.F.C." is repeated on the underside of the frame. Standard one-line address on top of the barrel, and the three-line/three patent date marking on the left side of the frame followed by "U.S." The loading gate is numbered "699". It has the early bullseye style ejector rod head, standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and is fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip with "P" stamped on the bottom. The factory letter states that the revolver was originally part of a 100 gun shipment to the U.S. government inspector located at the Colt plant on June 15, 1883, and was subsequently reshipped to Springfield Armory, Springfield, Massachusetts, on December 18, 1900. The included Rock Island Arsenal sales receipt shows that the revolver was sold to a civilian in 1934 for the purchase price of $5.50. Manufacturer: Colt Model: Single Action BBL: 5 1/5 inch round Stock: Gauge: 45 Long Colt Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: walnut Serial Number: 93587 Class: Antique Condition: Fine as Springfield Armory refurbished to artillery configuration. The revolver retains 70% of the combination high polish/armory blue finish showing holster type wear and overall moderate spotting. The frame is missing a pin and has a smooth gray patina mixed with hints of case colors. The grip fine with high edge wear and some minor handling marks. Mechanically functions, but does not lock up due to broken cylinder lock screw.
