U.S. Colt Artillery Model Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter According to the included factory letter, this revolver was shipped to the U.S. Government Inspector at Colt on November 11, 1876, along with one hundred other guns. It was then later returned "to the factory to have worn parts replaced, exterior refinished, reassembled without attention to matching part numbers and subsequently shipped to Commanding Officer, Springfield Armory, Springfield, MA on December 21, 1901." The original barrel length and grip is not recorded, but it is likely that the barrel was changed to the current "artillery" length during the factory refurbishment. It has standard features, the one-line address on the top of the barrel, no visible caliber designation on the left side, the two-line/two-date patent information followed by "U.S.", and is fitted with a one-piece walnut grip. It also has the "bullseye" style ejector rod head. The serial number on the frame is "31904" with a "LD" inspector's mark above. The trigger guard is marked "54307", and the butt is marked "133654" over "K". The assembly number "888" is marked on the loading gate. The barrel is marked "6539" just above the ejector housing. The grip has a "RAC" cartouche on the right, a "R.A.C." stamp on the lower left side, and "1901" over a second cartouche on the left side. Given the date of manufacture, it is likely that this revolver saw hard use in multiple conflicts such as: the late 19th century Indian wars, the Spanish-American War, and likely the Philippine-American War. Manufacturer: Colt Model: Single Action Army BBL: 5 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 45 Long Colt Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: walnut Serial Number: 31904 Class: Antique Condition: Very good as arsenal refurbished. The revolver retains half of the blue finish with a mottled gray patina on the frame and some wear overall from honest use including some light pitting under the blue overall. The cylinder has a faint drag line. It is mechanically excellent, and most of the markings remain clear. The grip is very good with clear cartouches and markings along with some minor dings and scratches.
