Provenance:
From the Family of George Kazan

The Persian rug dealer in New York George Kazan (originally born George Kazanjoglous) was an ethnic Greek immigrant from Turkey who operated a rug business in New York City after immigrating to the United States in 1913.

He is most famously known as the father of the legendary Academy Award-winning Hollywood film and stage director Elia Kazan (who directed classic films like On the Waterfront and A Streetcar Named Desire).

The Kazan family immigrated to the US when Elia was four years old. While his father established a successful rug business and moved the family to suburban New Rochelle, New York, Elia famously rebelled against the trade to pursue a career in the arts rather than taking over his father's shop.
