Two Confederate Bonds Both of these Confederate States of America bonds were printed by the Southern Bank Note Company. The $100 was redeemable twenty months from the date of issue. This was common before the actual outbreak of the war. The $5 was redeemable six months after the ratification of a peace treaty in the event of a Confederate victory. Many C.S.A. bonds were designed to be redeemable after the conflict ended in an effort to support the troops, but the values crashed as the tide of the war turned against the South. They became virtually worthless before the war's end, and were only worth their value as paper once the war was over.
