Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th to mid-20th century CE. A Tibetan silver and iron stamp seal. The cylindrical body features a central iron section etched with swirling cloud patterns, framed by chased silver bands of scrolling foliate motifs. The domed finial is adorned with high-relief vegetal designs, and the neck is pierced to accommodate a leather suspension cord. The circular seal face bears an incised stylized conch shell, one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols in Buddhism, representing the spread of the Dharma and the voice of the Buddha. Stamp seals served as official insignia to authenticate documents in the Tibetan royal court; ornate examples such as this were often ceremonial, functioning as objects of prestige, devotional symbols, or altar displays. Size: 4" L x 1.25" W (10.2 cm x 3.2 cm); silver quality: 90% to 93%

Provenance: private Wichita, Kansas, USA collection
