East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1500 to 1700 CE. A group of three blue-and-white porcelain bowls represents the robust export production of Ming dynasty kilns, two of matching form and a diminutive companion, all glazed in the bluish-white characteristic of period manufacture. The two larger bowls share a hemispherical profile on a short foot ring, their exteriors painted in cobalt blue with dense floral scroll and lotus petal registers, the brushwork confident and freely executed in the manner of Jingdezhen export ware produced for Southeast Asian and broader maritime trade networks. Each carries an abbreviated mark within a double circle on the base, likely an artemisia leaf or auspicious character rather than a reign mark, a convention widely used on export-grade wares of the period. The diminutive third bowl is decorated more simply, with a single band of alternating dots and circles at the rim, its spare ornament suggesting either a different kiln origin or a distinct functional category within the same service. Taken together, the three pieces offer a compact survey of the range and vitality of Ming blue-and-white production at the height of its international reach. Size of largest (two largest are the same): 6" D x 2.8" H (15.2 cm D x 7.1 cm H)

Provenance: private West Covina, California, USA collection
