The ride (about 1100 English miles through the heart of Russia) was made on a "Wilde America" mustang, bought from the Carver-Whitney show (like Buffalo Bill's) that happened to be exhibiting in Moscow at the time." Condition / Notes: This handsome antique volume is bound in mustard cloth, with stamped gilt lettering to the spine and front cover. The book has attractive pictorial designs stamped in black and gold, including a depiction of the Imperial Eagle of Czarist Russia. A facsimile of the author's signature is stamped in gold at the bottom edge of the front cover. The book shows moderate external wear, with darkening to its spine. The binding is solid. A previous owner's pencil annotations appear at the top of the front flyleaf. The pages are clean and without markings. This work is illustrated with a photographic frontispiece portrait of the author on horseback and a number of additional plates, with illustrations from photographs by the author. Chapter 6 provides an account of a author's visit to Lev Tolstoy at his estate Yasnia Polyana.
