Fr.69x54cm Img.27x14cm (27.17x21.26 in , 2.26x1.77 ft | 10.63x5.51 in , 0.89x0.46 ft),After original work by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867) Ingres was the final leading master and culminating figure of French Neoclassicism. A fervent admirer of Raphael, he insisted that drawing must be built on anatomical structure and linear form, pursuing rigorous composition and elegant figures. Apart from La Source, the original prototype of this print, his masterpieces also include La Grande Odalisque and The Bather of Valpincon. He passed away in Paris on January 14, 1867, aged 86. Engraved by Luigi Calamata (1802-1869) An Italian painter and master engraver renowned for his exquisite printmaking craft. His most celebrated achievement lies in his decades-long reproductions of Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa and Ingres' La Source. By adopting mixed engraving techniques, he solved the technical challenge of recreating the sfumato effect and subtle tonal gradations of oil paintings within print media. He died in 1869 at the age of 68. La Source, the original oil painting on canvas, took Ingres 26 years (1830-1856) to complete and is now housed at the Musee d'Orsay, France. The young maiden stands in a graceful S-curve, holding an urn from which clear spring water flows gently. Set against dark rocky outcrops dotted with wildflowers, the scene radiates a serene and ethereal atmosphere. With soft hues and fluid contours, Ingres unites the precise formal discipline of Neoclassicism with idealized beauty, crafting a pure and refined female nude universally regarded as a pinnacle of female figuration in Western art history.
