"First published in 1897, this guide to the art and architecture of the U.S. Capitol provides useful materials on: its building; commissioning of its major art works; excerpts from journals of painters and architects involved; etc. Also has useful "keys" identifying all figures depicted in Trumbull's historical paintings in the Rotunda: the "Declaration of Independence"; "Surrender of General Burgoyne"; "Surrender of Lord Cornwallis"; and "General Washington resigning his Commission. An index & Appendix makes further research easier."

Illustrated with line drawings & photos. Gift inscription on1st blank end paper dated August, 1918, Old newspaper articles concerning Washington laid down to front board & rear end paper, & usual light foxing to the blank pages across from the newspaper articles, o/w internally tight and unmarked. Binding Exterior; rubbing wear to exterior spine & edges but all lettering/decoration readable. NO REMAINDER MARK; NOT X-LIBRARY. NO DJ AS ISSUED.
