"THE MASONIC TOOTH" SCRIMSHAW WHALE'S TOOTH
Circa 1885
Apparently presented to A.S. Houk, P.M.E.H.P., a 32nd degree Mason, by Webb Chapter No. 14 of the Royal Arch Masons, Cleveland, January 7, 1885, based on inscriptions incorporated into the design. Abundantly and finely engraved and richly inked depictions of a Knights Templar sword; an INRI cross; a Knights Templar Oriental Commandery 12, Cleveland badge; several types of 32nd degree double eagle insignia, etc. Mounted with a silver metal cap with decoration of scrolling acanthus leaves interrupted by medallions containing Masonic symbols including a trowel, a square and compass, a "G" and an hourglass. Short chain attached to cap.

  • Condition: Gouge at one side of tooth, probably done in the taking. Age lines at tip starting to fracture.
