(THE GOODNIGHT-LOVING TRAIL)
(OLIVER LOVING) (1812-1867) American rancher and cattle-driver who, with Charles Goodnight, developed the Goodnight-Loving Trail used in the late 1860s for the large-scale drive of Texas Longhorns. Killed by a party of Comanche Indians. Manuscript document, 2pp. legal folio, County of Parker, TX, Oct. 28, 1859, a legal document regarding a bond for Loving and his partner John Durkee for a $3,200.00 payment to be made to B. F. Baker. John Durkee was Loving's partner in a cattle drive from Palo Pinto, Texas to Chicago, Illinois in 1858, the first such drive on historical record. Signed in type by Loving and Durkee. Light wear to edges, a few pinholes at folds, else very good.
