"Felix Huntington and the Furniture of Norwich, Connecticut, 1770-1800" by Thomas P. Kugelman.

    Notes:
Cabinetmaker Felix Huntington (1749-1822/1823), born into one of Connecticut's most influential families, was known for expensive and specialized forms of furniture. One of about two dozen woodworkers active in the area of Norwich, Connecticut, during the last quarter of the 18th Century, he probably trained with his great-uncle, William Lathrop, and he probably worked with his cousin, Ebenezer Carew, when he didn't have a shop of his own. Like most Connecticut craftsmen of his time, he didn't sign his work and thus attributions are based on provenance, account records, estate inventories, etc.

His best works, produced in cherry and mahogany, date from 1770 into the 1780s, which was a prosperous time in the area of Norwich. He was, however, apparently hounded by financial problems throughout his career, notably having been forced to sell his home and shop to settle his debts in 1791.

In 1799, according to Judge Ebeneezer Devotion's account book, now in the collection of the New London County Historical Society, Huntington sold Devotion a mahogany sideboard and a cherry bedstead for 3.10 pounds to settle "sundries from bill" from when Devotion had earlier purchased several pieces executed by Huntington.
