VINTAGE 1954 Hardcover History Of Various Everest Expeditions. "The Ascent Of Everest" By Brigadier John Hunt. HARDCOVER 1954 Companion Book Club (London) reprint 1954 of the original Hodder & Stoughton edition published the same year. Nice Collectible hardcover copy. Exactly as shown in listing scan(s).

"The book was written in the months after the successful ascent of Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay and by the expeditions leader John Hunt. From his view at the top of the pyramid Hunt is able to give a good indication to the reader as to the huge amount of work that went into the expedition from it's inception and through to gathering provisions and the like. This is very enlightening to the neophyte as the author takes the pains to give credit to the whole crew which is to be commended in an era of "look at me, look at me" adventure travel and reality TV myopia. After the summit is reached the reader will probably experience some lessening of interest but the last pages of the book are very interesting as psychologically you could feel the emotional drain of the author and his team after succeeding in their task, that though exhilarated they at the same instant, felt so "washed out", so to speak. An index & Appendices makes further research easier."
