Desirable Colt First Generation Single Action Army Revolver with Exceptional Carved Steer Head Pearl Grips This is a very fine example of a desirable first generation Colt Single Action Army with the long 7 1/2 inch barrel chambered in 32 W.C.F. (the fourth most popular caliber) that is fitted with an outstanding set of "Steer Head" carved Mother of Pearl grips. The serial number of the revolver places the manufacture in late 1923, and it has the fixed blade front and frame groove rear sight. The barrel is marked with the standard long, one-line address markings of: "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.", and the left side is marked: "32 W.C.F.". The frame has the standard two-line, three-patent dates followed by the uncircled Rampart Colt. It is fitted with very rare mother of pearl grips with the large steer head carved on the right side with the left side being smooth. Very interestingly, the horns on the steer head have been capped with a copper overlay. Additionally, the eyes of the steer have the small red-ruby style eyes, (one missing). This revolver was produced at the time when Colt was starting to hide the serial numbers, so this one is stamped with only the serial number "346213" on the underside of the frame with the sides of the back strap and trigger guard being stamped with the matching serial number and only the last two digits "13" stamped on the back side of the cylinder. The back side of the loading gate is numbered "936". Manufacturer: Colt Model: Single Action Army BBL: 7 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 32 WCF Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: mother of pearl Serial Number: 346213 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Fine with the barrel and ejector retaining 95% of their blued finish with edge and high spot wear. The cylinder retains 95% of its blued finish overall with a blue loss on the front edges and a clear drag line. The back strap and trigger guard both retain 85% of their blue finish mixed with a light brown patina overall. The frame, loading gate and hammer all retain 40% of their case colors mostly in the protected area. The slightly oversize grips fit fairly well with a little over hang on the back strap. The carving is very nice and detailed with a slight, minor age crack across the face. As noted it is missing one of the ruby eyes. An attractive example of a Colt SAA First Generation revolver with unique carved steer head pearl grips.
