SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 32-40 S#. 9473. Bbl. 32" octagon to round measures 1 1/16" at the muzzle and is fitted with a Pope false muzzle and bullet starter. Famed barrel maker Harry Pope sold his rifling machinery to J. Stevens and started work with them in a supervisory role in 1901. The Stevens-Pope barrels were available on order for Stevens, Winchester high wall, Ballard and other target rifles until 1913. The top flat is stamped "STEVENS-POPE" over the standard single line J. Stevens address. The bottom barrel flat is stamped with Pope's barrel number "1864". The front of the frame is model marked "54".This stunning rifle is the highest grade offered by Stevens. It is based on the Model 44 1/2 action. Harry Pope designed this improved falling block action shortly after arriving at Stevens. It has a drop forged receiver designed for smokeless powder pressures. This late production rifle features deep cut style scroll engraving. The right game scene depicts a bear while the left shows a running whitetail buck. Standard features include double set triggers, ripple case colored frame and Pope Special lever with 2 piece wood grips. The perch belly cheekpiece stock and schnable tipped forend are of fine Black Walnut with elaborate hand checkering that is designed around the base of the factory palm rest. The special Schuetzen buttplate is nickel finished. Sights consist of a Stevens No. 210 globe front with extra discs, a Stevens-Pope No.110 tang sight and an added Lyman Super Target Spot scope. Weight with scope is 15 lbs, 3.4 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: includes a wood shooters box containing: an Ideal No. 6 powder measure, Pope RE and DE capper, Stevens-Pope bullet lubricating pump with dies, bullet mold marked with matching barrel number "1864:, King powder Co. FFFG powder tin, Muller "Valvespout" oil tin, 1 Springfield armory box containing 38 lubricated lead bullets with 1928 date,1 partial box of Remington UMC No. 2 1/2 nickeled primers, 2 sealed boxes of 100 Peters No. 15 primers, 1 partial tin box of UMC No. 2 1/2 primers with red label, 1 tin primer box containing 3 front sight discs, wood cartridge case & bullet blocks, a small box containing a short starter plus other assorted tools and cases. Non related items include a Craftsman "Golden Rule, 50 years of value, 1886-1936" tape measure. A modern foam lined rifle case also holds: the false muzzle with bullet seater, a lubricating pump, loading rod, sight inserts, 2 firing pins, along with a modern cleaning rod & supplies. CONDITION: this exceptional rifle retains over 70% lightly faded barrel blue showing areas of thinning with dark spotting. The receiver has over 70% lightly faded case colors with crisp engraving. The stocks have lightly worn finish and checkering showing spots of wear with handling marks and a dent along the lower edge of the cheekpiece. The forend barrel channel shows gouge marks from relieving. Sound triggers and action. The barrel retains lightly worn Pope rifling showing a slight darkness in the grooves. 19. SHIPPING: Poulins makes every attempt to ship your goods in a timely fashion. Because of the high volume of items being shipped and delays that shipping carriers deal with, please allow 2-3 weeks for your items to be delivered after all paperwork and full payment is received and applied. We do not attempt to make money on shipping but neither do we wish to lose money on shipping. The following is our shipping policy and shipping/handling/box and insurance charges.
SHIPPING CHARGES:
All shipping charges must be charged to a credit card. The shipping cost is calculated at the time the package has been prepared so we have accurate dimensions and weights. This includes the carrier shipping cost, handling insurance. Insurance is required and provided through Poulin's insurance carrier. If you have your own insurance or do not want insurance you will need to fill out a Poulin Insurance Waiver and submit it. Please be aware if you do not utilize Poulin's insurance and decide to self-insure, there is no compensation for any damage or loss.
*ASAP Orders: Are available on small quantities of 10 guns or less, however there is an additional charge of $50.00
*Hard Cases: There is a $20.00 charge for hard cases.
*Handling charges: Handguns are $8.00 per gun. Longarms are $15.00 per gun. Miscellaneous items and larger Class III items will vary depending on material used and time it takes to package. Labor rate is $30.00 an hour on these other items.
*Insurance Charges: A rate of $8 for the first $800 and 95 cents PER each $100.00 after $800. This covers the Hammer & Buyers Premium only. This does not include shipping, nor does it include what you expected to get for the item if resold.
*Shipping cost: Carrier cost plus all firearms (including antiques) are shipped with adult signature required. Any item(s) shipped with a value of $1000.00 and up is shipped with signature required.
*Boxes: $7.50 per box used in your shipment. No charge if it is a free box supplied by the carrier. (We do not carry all box sizes from these carriers, only generally sized ones).
POLICIES:
*Multiple winning bids will be combined to save buyer money.
*We reserve the right to not ship an item if we feel that it is too fragile or bulky to be done safely. (i.e. Bronzes, frames, delicate and/or oversized items, etc.)
*Poulins will not pack or ship anything that consists of a frame with glass or mirror. We recommend using a company that specializes in handling these types of items, such as Sure Express or a similar company. Prior to the release of the items, it is required that a Poulin insurance waiver be signed by the customer and it would be understood that insurance on said shipment is the sole responsibility of the customer and or the specialized company they choose to handle their shipment.
