Scarce SS Contract Range Walther Model PP Semi-Automatic Pistol with Original Box and Two Matching Magazines This pistol has the P suffix serial number (type 4) on the right side of the slide, right side of the frame ahead of the grip, the spine of the magazines (also numbered "1" and "2" respectively), and "eagle/N" proofmarks on the chamber and right side of the slide. These are all features known on SS contract PP pistols. Note however, that magazine #2 has a plastic finger extension which was not standard for SS pistols according to Walther pistol expert John Pearson. Pistol #202955P, just 5 serial numbers earlier, was previously sold with a letter from Pearson confirming it was from the SS contract and is also listed on page 189 of "SS Walther PP/PPK" by Steven J. Stepan. Many confirmed SS pistols have been located since that book was published just a few years ago. The SS (Schutzstaffel or "Protection Squadron") is well-known as one of the most feared and murderous paramilitary units in history. The organization's ties to the Nazi Party and its dark history have made genuine SS items very collectible over the years. They were initially popular war trophies with American soldiers as they fought to defeat Hitler's forces. The pistol also has the standard small blade and notch sights, Walther banner followed by "Waffenfabrik Walther, Zell=Melis (Thur)/Walther's Patent Cal. 7,65 m/m" and "Mod. PP" on the left side of the frame, and checkered plastic Walther banner grips. The included box is correct and has a matching green label and a red "mit Signalstift" sticker. The inside is divided into two section; one to hold the pistol, and one holding the spare magazine and a cleaning kit tin with oil bottle, wipe, and a deactivated cartridge marked "RWS" and "7,65." Manufacturer: Walther Model: PP BBL: 4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 7.65 mm auto Finish: blue Grips: plastic Serial Number: 202960P Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very fine with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall, minor edge and high spot wear, light surface oxidation on the back strap, and 75% plus of the original niter blue on the safety/decocker. The grips are excellent and display only minor handling and storage marks. It is mechanically excellent and has crisp markings throughout. The box is near good with separation on multiple sides, some tearing, and distinct images and markings. This is a solid example of a desirable SS contract Walther PP complete with a matching box and two matching numbered magazines.
