Desirable Cased Reilly Retailer Marked Squareback Trigger Guard Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver The early "First Model" and "Second Model" Colt Model 1851 Navy revolvers featured squareback trigger guards like the Colt Walker, First and Second Model Dragoons, and Baby Dragoon. These "Second Model" revolvers with the wedge below the screw fall within the 1250-4200 serial number range per Wilson in "The Book of Colt Firearms". This revolver dates to 1850, the first year of production, and has "REILLY" and "REILLY NEW OXFORD STREET LONDON" marked on the back strap. It was apparently marked for gun makers Joseph Charles Reilly and Edward Michael Reilly who moved to 502 New Oxford Street in London in 1847. It did not pass through the London proof house. It features a brass cone front sight, the "-ADDRESS. SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY-" barrel marking, iconic Naval Battle of Campeche cylinder scene, "COLT'S/PATENT" on the left side of the frame, "K" on the left side of the squareback trigger guard, "T" on the right side of the trigger guard, matching partial serial number "827" on the wedge, and the full matching serial number "1827" on the arbor pin, cylinder, loading lever, barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, and rear mortise of the grip (latter twice, once in ink and once in pencil). The American style case contains an Eley Bros. cap tin, "COLTS/PATENT" marked martial themed flask with sloped charger, cartridge pack, brass bullet mold with iron sprue cutter and "COLTS/PATENT" marked on the left side, and an L-shaped combination tool.
