Exceptional U.S. Springfield Model 1903 National Rifle Association Marked Bolt Action Rifle Manufactured in late 1915 (12-15 barrel date), this is an excellent example of an original U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1903 Springfield bolt action NRA Sales rifle. These NRA Sales rifles were sold by the D.C.M. only to N.R.A. members in the 1913-1916 time frame. They were issued by both Springfield Armory and Rock Island Arsenal. Although not marked with the traditional "star" stamp, the barrels were air-gauged for bore quality to ensure they were the best available barrels for the target shooters. They are identified by the "N.R.A./Ordnance Shell and Flame" stamped on the forward section of the trigger guard to denote that they were sold through the D.C.M. to an N.R.A. member. Has the standard sights on a "S A/flaming bomb/12- 15" marked barrel with a stamped metal cover, and the receiver has the standard markings. The bolt has the steel lot code "I8" stamped on the bottom of the safety lug. Mounted on a smooth walnut straight grip stock with grasping grooves, one reinforcing bolt, a boxed "J.S.A." cartouche on the left wrist, a circled script "P" proof on the underside of the wrist and a sharply checkered steel buttplate with trapdoor. Manufacturer: Springfield Armory U.S. Model: 1903 BBL: 24 inch round Stock: walnut Gauge: 30-06 Springfield Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 623789 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Excellent. 90% plus original blue and oil-quenched casehardened finish remains with some light edge wear around the muzzle, mild brown patina on the chamber area of the barrel, and mild cycling and handling marks on the bolt body and handle.
