Rare and Exceptional U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Gallery Practice .22 Bolt Action Rifle This is a rare example of one of only 841 Model 1898 Krag .22 caliber Gallery Practice rifles manufactured by Springfield in 1906-1907. The rifle has the distinctive altered receiver side showing the small hole for the ejector, with the correct .22 caliber barrel with off-set chamber and bolt with auxiliary extractor for the .22 Long cartridge. The receiver is marked "U.S./MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY, 475656" followed by "CAL./.22" that was applied only to the gallery practice rifles. High blade front sight and adjustable ladder rear sight graduated 1 to 20. Smooth full walnut full stock with matching hand guard, bayonet lug and stacking swivel on the front barrel band, a clear boxed "JFC" cartouche on the left side and "27" stamp in the pistol grip area behind the trigger guard. Manufacturer: Springfield Armory U.S. Model: 1898 Rifle BBL: 30 inch round Stock: walnut Gauge: 22 long Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: Serial Number: 475656 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Excellent. 97% plus original blue and casehardened finish remains overall with remnants of a coat of protective varnish on some of the metal. 99% bright high polish blue on the trigger guard. 95% bright nitre blue on the extractor. The stock and handguard set are both excellent with a few scattered small dings and crisp cartouche. Mechanically excellent.
