Special Order Winchester Model 1886 Takedown Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter Manufactured in 1906. The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with a round barrel in 33 caliber, plain trigger, full magazine, shotgun buttplate, takedown configuration and "plain pistol grip stock, checkered" when it was received in the warehouse on July 8, 1907, and shipped on July 20. The letter lists a repair and return date (October 4, 1908). The features on this rifle not listed in the letter were possibly added when it was returned to the factory. The left side of the barrel has the two-line address followed by "MADE IN U.S.A.," the two-line nickel steel marking and "33 W.C.F." The right side of the barrel is marked "MODEL 1886." The lower tang has the two-line patent dates and the serial number. It has beaded blade Lyman front, elevation adjustable rear and Marble tang sights. The action is fitted with double set triggers. A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver at the breech. Quick release sling swivels are mounted on the forend cap and underside of buttstock. The forearm and pistol grip stock are checkered. The stock has a factory hard rubber grip cap and an added Winchester marked solid recoil pad. The rifle retains 80% plus original blue finish with the balance thinning to a gray. The left side of the receiver has been drilled and tapped for sight mounting. Traces of faded original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is fine showing some minor dings and scratches and recut checkering. Mechanically excellent.
