Documented Smith & Wesson .44 Frontier Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter and Pearl Grips The factory letter indicates this revolver was shipped on December 18, 1895, to J. W. Cross and confirms the current configuration, including the mother of pearl grips, at the time of shipment. The revolver has a pinned "half moon" blade front sight, standard notch rear sight, and standard markings, including matching serial numbers. Manufacturer: Smith & Wesson Model: Frontier BBL: 6 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 44-40 Finish: nickel Grips: mother of pearl Serial Number: 8839 Class: Antique Condition: Fine. The revolver retains 50% of the original nickel plating and traces of original case colors and blue finish on the small parts. Most of the flaking of the nickel is on the grip frame, but there is light flaking throughout. The grips are fine and have some chipping at the butt and minor aging. The revolver is mechanically fine and has clear markings.
