Sheriffs Model Colt 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver with Pearl Grips and Factory Letter This is a very fine example of a Colt Model 1877 DA Ejectorless Storekeeper revolver with 3 1/2 inch barrel with the etched barrel panel markings, that is accompanied by a Colt factory letter. This revolver was shipped in August 1880 to B. Kittredge & Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, in a shipment of 50 pistols. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the Colt two-line Hartford address with the etched barrel panel markings on the left side of: "COLT D.A. 38". The left side of the frame is stamped with the Colt factory three-line/three-date" patent markings with "38 CAL" stamped on the left rear side of the trigger guard. It has matching serial numbers on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap with the partial serial number "592" is stamped on the rear of the cylinder. As noted, it currently has a set of mother of pearl grips, but it was shipped with the standard Colt hard rubber grips. It has a nickel plated finish with the exception of the trigger, hammer and cylinder pin which all have a nitre blue finish. Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1877 Lightning BBL: 3 1/2 inch round Stock: Gauge: 38 long Colt Finish: nickel Grips: mother of pearl Serial Number: 25592 Class: Antique Condition: Very fine with 90% plus of the original Colt nickel plated finish overall with edge and high spot wear and some minor spotting of the nickel finish on the edges of the trigger guard and back strap. The various smaller parts retain traces of their nitre blue finish overall. The grips are in very fine condition with nice color on both sides and some minor chipping on the very rear edge of the back strap. Although the letter states "Rubber" grips, these pearl grips fit nice and tight with both panels showing old age wear contact on the back sides of each grip where they contacted the frame, so they have been on this revolver for a long time. A very nice looking Colt Model 1877 DA Ejectorless revolver.
