Second Quarter of the 19th Century
Obverse depicts a scene from Arthurian legend, showing the Lady of the Lake poling a small boat toward King Arthur awaiting on shore. Titled near tip in a scrolling banner bordered by foliate vines. Reverse depicts a three-masted gunship flying a jack and an American flag. Well executed. Fine patina.

    The Lady of the Lake, sometimes known as Viviane or Nimue, is a powerful and mysterious enchantress. She is most famously known for bestowing King Arthur with the sword Excalibur, but she is also said to have eliminated the wizard Merlin, raised the knight Lancelot in her underwater realm after the death of his father, and eventually helped guide the dying Arthur to Avalon after his final battle.
  • Dimensions: Length 8". On a contemporary wooden stand.
