The rifle is all original and retains 85% plus of the original blue finish. The barrel, half-magazine and forearm cap retain nearly 99% of the original blue. The finish on the top and left side of the takedown collar has flaked, and the exposed metal has several small spots of pitting. The blue on the right side of the receiver from the loading gate to the takedown collar has scattered flaking with a small spot of surface rust. There is a small patch of flaking on the upper left side of the receiver near the hammer well. The finish on the bolt, loading gate and the balance of the receiver show minimal handling wear. Nearly all of the blue is present on the hammer, trigger and lever. The buttplate has some flaking and retains about 60% of the blue finish. The stock is in excellent condition and retains all of the original low-luster varnish. The forearm is in very good overall condition with some light contact wear along the underside. The action functions perfectly. This is a very fine example of a scarce Winchester Model 55 Takedown Rifle.
