Scarce Simson & Company Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Two Matching Magazines This is an excellent example of a Simson & Co. Luger pistol. This model was the official model that filled out the last of the post-WWI German military P.08 needs. Simson started work on this model in early 1924 and remained the only sanctioned supplier of P.08s to the Reichswehr until the Nazi era. On page 561 of Volume II of Pistole Parabellum, there is an example photographed (serial number 579a) which is 24 numbers away from this that has a "1926" dated chamber. (writer has doubts about the aforementioned date!) The chamber is blank, (which is correct for many of this model), and the toggle is marked "SIMSON & Co/SUHL". The right side of the barrel extension is marked with stacked "eagle/6" Simson acceptance marks, an "eagle/81", two "eagle/67" and the Imperial eagle. The right rear of the barrel has the Imperial eagle and the left a "eagle/RC" and the "eagle/6". The "eagle/6" acceptance mark is on all of the visible parts. The complete serial number is marked on the left side of the barrel extension, front of the frame and bottom of the barrel, the latter also having the bore diameter "8,85". Most of the visible small parts are marked with the partial serial number "55". The extractor and safety are marked "GELADEN" and "GESICHERT" respectively. Blade front and fixed rear sights, blue finish with straw colored small components, stock lug and fitted with checkered walnut grips numbered to the gun on the inside of each panel. The pistol is complete with two nickel magazines with aluminum bases numbered to the gun. One base is marked with the letter suffix, the other without, both have two "eagle/6" acceptance marks, and one has a "+" the other an "S". Manufacturer: Simson & Company Model: Luger BBL: 4 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm Finish: blue Grips: walnut Serial Number: 555a Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Excellent. The pistol retains 98% original blue finish with some muzzle and high edge wear, as well as some thinning on the side plate and left side of the frame. Almost all of the original straw color remains on the small parts showing some wear on the edges. The grips are also excellent with a few nicks and dings in the otherwise crisp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent. A truly outstanding Simson Luger with two matching magazines!
