Scarce London Proofed and British Cased Colt Model 1855 Sidehammer Pocket Revolver Manufactured c. 1865 (Model 6 revolver).The barrel is has the two-line New York address. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach Holdup scene and "COLT'S PATENT". "31 CAL." is vertically on the right side of the frame behind the capping cut-out. London "Crown/V" and "Crown/CP" proofs and inspection marks are stamped on the left side of the frame and on each cylinder chamber. The serial number "L/9624" is stamped on the butt and "96248" is stamped on the underside of the barrel and side of the cylinder. The "L" prefix in the serial number indicates a gun produced for Colt's London Agency. Comes with a British oak case with brass reinforcing screws and round brass inlay on the lid. The case interior has seven compartments with a green baize lining. A Colt instruction label is glued to the inside of the lid. The case contains: 500 count tin of Eley percussion caps for Colt's Belt and Pocket pistols with green label, steel cleaning rod with turned maple handle, L-shaped combination screwdriver/nipple wrench, iron .31 caliber bullet mold marked "COLT'S PATENT/II" on the sprue cutter, bag-shaped Dixon powder flask with adjustable charger and lanyard ring marked "COLTS POCKET FLASK" on the lid, Dixon marked pewter oil bottle, key and assorted .31 caliber round balls and conical bullets. The barrel and frame retain nearly 90% original blue finish with scattered minor handling marks. The cylinder has nearly all of the Stagecoach Holdup scene and retains traces of the blue finish in protected areas with the balance a pleasing silver-gray patina. The hammer and loading lever retain 95% original vivid case colors. The grip is very fine-excellent with minimal handling wear. The most significant wear is some minor finish flaking on the butt. The cylinder does not rotate when the hammer is cocked if you point. The case exterior is very fine with minimal handling wear. The case interior is very good; the lining is bright and clean and the Colt label has a few minor stains. Wear is limited to a break in the one partition from contact with the revolver hammer. The screwdriver/nipple wrench retains 75% military blue finish. The bullet mold has scattered surface rust and remains good overall with 50% military blue finish. The bag-shaped powder flask is excellent, retaining nearly 95% brown lacquer, gold-plated and fire blue finish with minimal handling wear. This is a very fine example of a scarce British cased, "L" prefix Colt Model 1855 Sidehammer revolver with London proofmarks.
