Scarce Factory Engraved Winchester Model 777 Bolt Action Rifle This experimental rifle was made for Winchester by Nikko in Japan in 1979-80 and are very rare in the U.S. Originally a contract from Edward Kettner to Winchester to make a rifle that was to be known as the Mistral Model 7000, Winchester subcontracted to Nikko and decided to have approximately 1,000 made for Winchester designated as the Model 777. They were to be sold mostly in Europe and Australia as a test platform for the acceptance of Japanese made guns carrying the Winchester name. Only about 1,000 were made, most of them unadorned. This rifle is engraved with floral scroll patterns with a punch dot background on the receiver and floor plate. The barrel is equipped with a hooded ramped beaded blade front sight and a elevation adjustable Williams rear sight. To the left and rear of the rear sight is marked with the two line address, "MODEL 777/.300 WIN. MAG." at the breech, the Winchester oval proof on the opposite side and "WINCHESTER" in the center of engraving on the left side of the receiver. The top of the receiver is factory drilled and tapped for scope mounting. Mounted with a nicely figured deluxe multi-point checkered walnut stock with a contrasting forend and grip cap and Monte Carlo stock with a right hand palm swell, raised comb, vented Winchester recoil pad and sling swivel studs. Very few, maybe only a handful of Model 777 are found in the U.S. Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 777 BBL: 24 inch round Stock: walnut Gauge: 300 Win magnum Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 027008 Class: Modern Long Gun Condition: Excellent. The rifle retains 99% plus original blue finish with only light handling/storage marks. The stock is also excellent with some light scratches and minor dents. The checkering is sharp. Crisp and clear engraving and markings. The action is excellent. A must for any serious Winchester collector.
