U.S. Saginaw Steering Gear Model 1919A4 Browning Machine Gun, Class III/NFA C&R BATFE Registered Fully Transferrable, with Tripod, This is a highly desirable WWII Browning 1919A4 medium machine gun. This model was originally designed at the end of World War I by John Browning as a air-cooled variant of the 1917 heavy machine gun. This model would go on to be one of the best American medium machine guns used during WWII, Korea and into Vietnam. It would continue to be used throughout the World by various friendly countries well into the 1970s. It was belt fed, had a cyclic rate of fire of approximately 600-700 rounds, and featured a light weight barrel with a perforated barrel jacket. It could and was used as an infantry weapon with either a tripod or bipod, it was mounted in infantry and reconnaissance vehicles and even in aircraft. It was fitted with folding sights on top of the receiver that were adjustable for both windage and elevation, that was graduated from 100-2400 yards. The right rear side of the receiver is marked "AN", indicating it was rebuilt at Anniston Army Depot. Following that it is marked: "No. 43176 (that has been hand stamped over the removed, original US Gov't contract serial number) U.S. INSP ABQ/BROWNING MACHINE GUN/U.S. CAL .30 M1919A(struck out "4")6/MAN'FD BY SAGNAW STEERING GEAR DIV./GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION". It has an all gray parkerized metal finish and comes with a flash hider and a US GI M1917 tripod with its pintle and cradle. The action hand cycles and dry fires correctly. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
