RICHARD RUGG I GEORGIAN ENGLISH STERLING SILVER SALVER, having a round well with an applied cast and reticulated rim, raised on three feet with reticulated knees and foliate toes, interior well having engraved decoration with the center possibly being later. Impressed with "R R" maker’s mark for Richard Rugg I and three hallmarks of a "C" date mark for 1758, a lion passant for sterling fineness, and a crowned leopard's head city mark for London. Total weight: 28.42 ozt.

  • Provenance: Property of a West Virginia gentleman.
  • Dimensions: 12 1/2" DOA.
  • Circa: Circa 1758.
  • Notes: The "R R" maker's mark with a central pellet was used by Richard Rugg I and his contemporary Robert Rew. Both Rugg and Rew were prolific salver makers in London, who worked around the same time period during the reigns of George II and George III. Though they had almost indistinguishable maker's marks, this salver is attributed to Rugg rather than Rew, because the mark is smaller in size compared to the three hallmarks.
  • Condition: Very good visual condition with some wear, surface scratches, scattered dents mostly minor/small in size, worn spots to engraved decoration along the edges, repairs to rim.

Shipping

We can ship most items with the exception of furniture and other large and/or heavy items.

Shipment of won lots to an address different from that on file may require verification, which can cause up to a 30-day delay in shipping.

Once a package is ready to ship it is weighed, measured and processed through the USPS and/or UPS system in order to determine cost of shipping including insurance and additional services (e.g. delivery confirmation) as applicable.

Our packing service is billed at a prorated fee of $18.00 per hour, with a $10.00 minimum. We use recycled materials whenever possible at no charge to the buyer. If we use purchased supplies such as boxes, etc., that cost is passed on to the buyer.

The actual cost of shipping/insurance and packing/materials cannot be determined until packing is completed. Once known, the shipping charges are applied to the buyer's invoice and he/she is notified of the cost by email (or by phone if we have no email).
