Rheinmetall/Dreyse Model 1907 Semi-Automatic Pistol with Fine "L.G." Land-Gendarmerie Marked Holster Produced by Rheinische Metallwaren & Maschinenfabrik Soemmerda after their purchase of the Dreyse company, the 1907 was produced up to 1914, and while military purchases were limited, many Imperial German police forces acquired the pistol, in addition to private purchase guns making their way into the trenches of World War One. Blade front and notch rear sights, with "DREYSE" on the right side of the frame, the two line Soemmerda address on the left, and a blank milled panel above the safety; while not verified, this panel is traditionally where police inventory markings would be found. Fitted with a pair of checkered grips with the RMM logo on top. The period magazine is marked "172.I." Included with the pistol is the original brown leather holster with a faint Berlin maker's mark "A Wunnderlich Nach Berlin" on the back and "L.G." on the inside, a marking traditionally associated with the Prussian "Land-Gendarmerie" rural police forces (see page 190 of Jan Still's "Central Powers Pistols" for examples of similarly marked holsters). Manufacturer: Dreyse Model: 1907 BBL: 5 inch round Stock: Gauge: 9 mm Finish: blue Grips: horn Serial Number: 1372 Class: Curio & Relic Handgun Condition: Very good as partially refinished, with 70% of the faded original blue, showing some mild spotting, light handling marks, and evidence of a marking removed and reblued over pattern in the milled area on the frame. The grips are good, with the left panel gouged out by the safety switch and mild dents overall. The holster is fine, with scuffs and stains. The slide is very stiff, but the pistol is otherwise mechanically fine. A fine pre-World War One police sidearm with proper holster.
