Remington Hepburn No. 3 Target Model Single Shot Rifle This lever activated falling block single shot target rifle was designed by Lewis Hepburn and was manufactured from 1883 to 1907 with approximately 10,000 in total production. The top barrel flat is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." at the breech and "38" on the bottom flat ahead of the forearm. Globe front sight with a Marble's filler block in the rear sight dovetail and mid range vernier tang mounted peep sight. The lower left side of the receiver is marked "HEPBURNS PAT./OCT 7TH 1879" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The bottom barrel flat under the forearm is marked with the matching serial number. Blue barrel, niter blue breechblock, hammer and trigger, casehardened remaining on metal parts and mounted with a smooth forearm with an iron forend insert, and checkered round knob pistol grip stock with iron carbine style buttplate. Manufacturer: E. Remington & Sons Model: Hepburn No. 3 BBL: 26 inch octagon Stock: walnut Gauge: 38 Finish: blue/casehardened Grips: Serial Number: 4607 Class: Antique Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 95% plus original blue finish with some minor corrosion on the left side flat. The top barrel flat at the breech and the filler block have been drilled and tapped for scope/rear sight mounting. Almost all of the original bright niter blue finish remains on the hammer, breechblock and trigger with some minor oxidation on the trigger. The receiver retains 80% original vivid case colors with some minor oxidation on the lower tang and trigger guard. The wood is fine with some scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The checkering is very crisp. The buttplate retains 80% of the original case colors with some minor oxidation. The action needs adjustment, the hammer does not hold a cock position. The markings remain crisp and clear.
