A vintage galvanized steel military field canteen of classic flattened oval form, fitted with its original screw cap and canvas shoulder strap. Constructed from galvanized sheet steel with a rolled seam and utilitarian finish, this example embodies the practical engineering associated with mid-20th century military and civil defense field equipment. The canteen retains an attractive untouched surface with honest age and use, displaying the naturally mottled galvanized finish developed over decades. The original knurled screw cap remains present, while the period canvas web strap allows the flask to be comfortably carried over the shoulder or attached to field gear. Measuring approximately 10 inches in height including the cap, this larger-capacity example would have served as a durable water vessel for military personnel, scouting organizations, forestry services, or other outdoor applications. Military canteens of this type were produced in numerous countries throughout the first half of the twentieth century, emphasizing rugged construction and ease of maintenance. Surviving examples retaining their original straps are increasingly sought after by collectors of militaria, camping equipment, and industrial design for their authentic utilitarian character. An appealing display piece with excellent decorative presence, equally suited for military collections, rustic interiors, or vintage outdoor equipment displays.

  • Condition: Good used condition. Light has been tested and powers on, producing illumination at the time of cataloging. Housing exhibits expected scratches, scuffs, and light surface wear from normal use. Protective front guard, adjustable stand, and tilt mechanism remain intact. Electrical components have not been professionally inspected and are offered as found.
