Rare Well Documented Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1892 Rifle with Extra Long Octagonal Barrel and Factory Letter Special order Winchester Model 1892 Fancy Sporting Rifle with Cody Firearms Museum letter. The letter describes Model 1892 serial number 254961 as: "Rifle, 38 Caliber, 30 inch, Octagon barrel, Set trigger" and "Fancy checkered stock". The letter states that this rifle was shipped from Winchester on September 22, 1905. The 30-inch octagon barrel has a rare Marbles reversible front sight with two different sight beads and "M.S.A. Co." rear sight with folding rear leaf and adjustable insert. A "M.S.A. Co." folding combination rear sight is mounted on the receiver tang. In addition to the special order 30-inch barrel, the rifle is fitted with rare Winchester double set-triggers. The stock and forearm are highly figured fancy grade walnut with checkered panels and a high polish piano finish. The barrel, magazine, forearm cap, receiver and bolt are blued and the hammer, lever and crescent buttplate are color casehardened. The loading gate has a fire blue finish. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./- NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PAT. OCT. 14. 1884. -" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber, "38 W.C.F." is stamped on the top barrel flat just ahead of the receiver. The oval Winchester "W/P" proofmark is stamped on the top of the barrel in front of the caliber marking and on the top of the receiver. The serial number, "254961" is roll-stamped across the bottom of the receiver. Extra length barrels are extremely rare on Winchester Model 1892 rifles and the combination of a 30-inch barrel, double set-triggers and checkered, fancy grade, walnut stock and forearm make this rifle a one-of-a-kind piece. Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1892-Rifle BBL: 30 inch Stock: walnut checkered Gauge: 38-40 WCF Finish: blue Grips: Serial Number: 254961 Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun Condition: Very fine. 85% of the blue finish is present on the barrel, magazine and forearm cap.
