Pre-War Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle in 375 H&H Magnum with Scarce Medium Heavy Barrel Manufactured in 1938. Beaded Integral blade ramp front sight with provisions for a hood, elevation adjustable rear sight, and tapped for sight/scope mounting ahead of the rear sight and on the type I receiver. It has the correct early 24 inch medium heavy barrel with the early caliber marking "375 MAGNUM" on the left side and two-line address on the right side. According to Roger Rule in his book "The Rifleman's Rifle: Winchester's Model 70, 1936-1963," an estimated ten .375 H&H Magnum Model 70s with the 24 inch barrel were manufactured (page 199). By 1945, the 24 inch medium heavy barrel was replaced by the 25 inch barrel. The Winchester factory proof is marked on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. Equipped with a late safety, cloverleaf receiver tang, polished bolt (not numbered) and sling swivels. Mounted with a checkered pistol grip stock fitted with a solid recoil pad.
