This fascinating album with 24 albumen photographs was from a collection of photos of Hawaii created by James J. Williams. Williams took the photographs circa 1890s.

The album is bound in black 1/2 leatherette over cloth with storage box. It includes the hand-written list of the included photographs. The subjects for his photograph collection were Princess Ka'iulani, surfers, landscapes, cityscapes, agricultural scenes, Iolani Palace, Honolulu, Waikiki, flora and other natural landscape, commerce, and more. In particular his portrait of the last princess of Hawaii, Ka'iulani, is rare.

James J. Williams (1853-1926) was an English-born photographer. He documented the Kingdom of Hawaii and its royal family. He operated a photography studio in Honolulu, and his work there remains significant.
