[Philadelphia] Presented by Gould & Co. City of Philadelphia, 1867

Philadelphia: Rease & Kurtz, 1867. Tinted lithograph. Approximately 24 x 32 in. (610 x 813 mm) (sight). In mat and unexamined out of frame.

A rare souvenir lithograph distributed by Philadelphia furniture dealers Gould & Co., depicting three panoramas and three views of the city. The panoramas show the Eastern, Western, and Central portions of the city from across the Schuylkill and Delaware rivers, while the views show Independence Hall, and Gould & Co.'s depots, at the northeast corner of 9th & Market Streets and at 37 & 39 N. Second Street. Several of Philadelphia's major landmarks are visible in the panoramas, including the U.S. Mint, the Academy of Music, St. Mark's Church, the Academy of Natural Science, Pennsylvania College, Woodland Cemetery, U.S. Arsenal, Navy Yard, Pennsylvania Hospital, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Fairmount Park, Girard College, Fairmount & Water Works, Eastern State Penitentiary, Merchant's Exchange, Custom House, State House, Christ Church, Masonic Hall, Penn Treaty Monument, etc. Two allegorical views in upper left and right depict "Peace" and "War".

Rare, according to RBH, this is the first copy to come to auction since the early 20th century.

A fine view of post Civil War Philadelphia.
