Documented Honus Wagner Inscribed Parker Brothers VH Grade Double Barrel 16 Gauge Shotgun Manufactured in 1910. Single bead sight on the matte rib marked "PARKER BROTHERS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. CONN. VULCAN STEEL" with 2 1/2 inch chambers, single extractor and modified/full chokes. Standard markings on the water table and barrel flats with light zig-zag engraving on the receiver. With dual triggers and a tang mounted automatic thumb safety. Checkered splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with a Parker Brothers hard rubber grip cap, silver initial shield inscribed "HONUS/WAGNER", and checkered dogs head hard rubber buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .664/.669 inch; minimum wall thickness .025/.029 inch; drop at comb 1 3/4 inches; drop at heel 3 inches; length of pull 14 1/4 inches. Includes a copy of two 1956 dated sales receipts for two Parker Brothers shotguns, listed by serial number and gauge (the other is also featured in this auction!) signed by Bessie B. Wagner and a copy of a 1998 Tribune-Review article detailing the sale of a pair of shotguns owned by Wagner to Dan Hardesty of Franklin, Pennsylvania, where he intended to display them in his Wild West Museum. The receiver has a mostly gray patina with strong traces of original case colors visible in the protected areas, some light spotting, and a mottled brown patina on the trigger guard. The wood is also very good with wear on the forearm checkering, freshened finish and checkering on the buttstock, small dents throughout, and a chip absent from the toe and buttplate.
