Oceania, Papua New Guinea, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. This group comprises several vegetal fiber and bamboo objects, including two woven armbands and a belt or sash made from the same braided plant fibers. A bamboo pole is fitted with woven attachments and cassowary feathers, its upper end split into serrated prongs and capped with tightly wrapped fiber, while the open tubular end includes a suspension loop and an interior coated with a chalky white residue, suggesting use as a container for lime, medicinal powder, or ritual substances. Another element is a dense raffia object incorporating bark panels, cords, and a rigid arched handle at the top, with a pronounced conical, snout-like projection. Size of bamboo pole: 33" L x 12" W (83.8 cm x 30.5 cm)

Provenance: private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection, acquired between 1950 and 1985
