Matching Pair of Victorian All Metal Scottish Charles Playfair Engraved Flintlock Pistols -A) Playfair Pistol Matching Pair of Victorian All Metal Scottish Charles Playfair Engraved Flintlock Pistols -A) Playfair Pistol Offered here is a pair of Victorian era all-metal flintlock pistols by Charles Playfair of Aberdeen, Scotland, in the 1850s. The three-stage barrel is formed with a twelve-sided scroll engraved muzzle section, a round mid-section, and a breech section with seven flats. The breech section of the barrel features an alternately scroll engraving and is signed "C. PLAYFAIR/ ABERDEEN". The polished steel lock plates are fully scroll engraved. The action has a roller frizzen spring, semi-rain proof pan, and ball trigger. A polished steel belt hook is mounted on the left side. The German silver stock is finely engraved overall. This engraving includes scrollwork and on the grip engraved panels featuring additional scrollwork which surrounds engraved panoply of arms on each side. The grip has ram horn finials which is a common feature found on Scottish pistols. Charles Playfair lived around 1797 – 1859. See "Der Neue Stockel" page 967.
