Derringers with Brass Frames and Scarce Short Barrels -A) National Arms Co. Second Model Derringer This is one of the rarest matched pairs of derringers in existence. Only 200 National Arms. Co. Second Model derringers were manufactured between 1865 and 1870. Although iron frames were generally less common than brass frames, only five short barrel examples are known with brass frames, and this is the only known pair. They are extremely close in manufacture sequence at only two serial numbers apart (5664 and 5666) and feature matching factory scroll engraving, checkered walnut grips, silver plating over brass frames, and rare 2 inch barrels marked only with "NATIONAL ARMS Co." The serial numbers are marked on the bottom of the barrels and the grips and rear straps are marked "BB 64" on A and "BB 66" on B. Both have round blade front sights, no extractors, and hammer groove rear sights. Manufacturer: National Arms Co Model: 2 BBL: 2 inch irregular Stock: Gauge: 41 RF Finish: silver plating Grips: walnut Serial Number: 5664 Class: Antique Condition: Very good. The pistol retains 60% of the period applied silver plating on the barrel and traces on the frame with an aged patina overall and some light corrosion. The grips are fair with a crack in the right panel, high spot wear, and crisp checkering. The action is excellent, and the markings are legible. B) National Arms. Co. Second Model Derringer As described in A.
