Cased Pair of Matching Perronne French Screw Barrel Flintlock Muff Pistols -A) Perronne Muff Pistol Cased Pair of Matching Perronne French Screw Barrel Flintlock Muff Pistols -A) Perronne Muff Pistol The lock of "B" is marked "PERRONNE/FILS," and "A" has "AVIGNON" indicating they were manufactured in by Perronne Brothers in south-eastern France. The cannon style barrels screw off to allow loading from the breech. The barrels and breech sections are niter blue. The ornate thumb plates are silver. The other fittings were likely finished bright. The stock has raised floral carving. The pistols overall are feminine in design and would have been suitable for carrying in a lady's hand warmer (muff) or pockets. They come in a later antique ivory case with mostly silver fittings including clawed feet and a plaque inscribed with "M.C.B." in gothic letters. A mid-19th century powder flask with "43" coarsely scratches on the collar is inside.
