Two Auguste Francotte Swiss Model 1842 Military Percussion Pistols -A) Francotte Model 1842 Pistol Two Auguste Francotte Swiss Model 1842 Military Percussion Pistols -A) Francotte Model 1842 Pistol This lot consists of two Swiss Model 1842 single shot, smoothbore military pistols. These pistols would have been issued to the Swiss cavalry even into the Franco-Prussian War era. The top of the barrels have "VAUD" followed by the serial numbers. The left side of the stock flats have coordinating markings vertically. "A. FRANCOTTE/LIEGE" markings are found on the barrels and locks, and proof and inspection marks are located on the left side of the barrels and on some of the small parts. Vaud is a cantonment (member state) in the western, French speaking part of the Swiss Confederacy. The pistols have blade front sights and lanyard swivels on the pommel caps. Manufacturer: Francotte A Model: Percussion BBL: 7 1/8 inch round Stock: walnut Gauge: 69 Finish: bright Grips: Serial Number: 414 Class: Antique Condition: Fine. The pistol has gray patina on the iron, patches of brown patina and oxidation, and light pitting. The brass has a deep aged patina. The stock has some subtle flame figure and minor marks. It is mechanically fine and has crisp markings. B) Francotte Model 1842 Pistol See A. Manufacturer: Francotte A Model: Percussion BBL: 6 1/2 inch round Stock: walnut Gauge: 69 Finish: bright Grips: Serial Number: 95 Class: Antique Condition: Fine with gray patina on the iron, some spots of minor oxidation/brown patina, cleaning marks, and slight pitting. The brass has aged patina. The stock is fine with a slight hairline crack at the tail of the lock, minor marks and scratches, and some signs of light sanding/cleaning. It is mechanically fine and has mostly distinct markings.
