Attractive Pair of Clinton Finley Signed, Engraved, Silver Plated Colt First Generation Single Action Army Revolvers in .41 Long Colt with Embellished Edward Bohlin Gold and Copper Plated Sterling Silver Grips -A) Clinton Finley Signed Engraved Colt Single Action Army Revolver Attractive Pair of Clinton Finley Signed, Engraved, Silver Plated Colt First Generation Single Action Army Revolvers in .41 Long Colt with Embellished Edward Bohlin Gold and Copper Plated Sterling Silver Grips -A) Clinton Finley Signed Engraved Colt Single Action Army Revolver Offered here is a wonderful pair of 1900 production Colt Single Action Army revolvers that were subsequently silver plated and decorated with high quality engraving bearing the signature "CFinley" of engraver Clinton Finley on the bottom of their barrels, and wearing Edward Bohlin of Hollywood sterling silver grips with gold and copper plated designs. Engraver Clinton Finley of Redding, California, began engraving in 1970 and remains active in the modern day. Finley's detailed engraving is very well executed in the style seen in the works of Nimschke and Helfricht, consisting of floral scroll patterns on beaded backgrounds, clamshell motifs, zig-zag line and dot designs, and Nimschke stars. The Bohlin sterling silver grips are embellished with engraved raised 14k gold plated steer heads (only on the left side of the "A" gun) and engraved raised copper plated floral scrollwork. The interior of each grip panel is marked with “EDWARD H./BOHLIN/HOLLYWOOD, CAL" in a shield and "STERLING/14K”. Edward H. Bohlin (1895-1980) was born in Sweden and was obsessed with the American West. As a teenager he ran away and boarded a ship to the U.S. with the hope of joining Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West show. After working on ranches and learning English, he opened his first saddle store in Cody, Wyoming, in 1920. He eventually moved to Hollywood where he got involved in the show business as a trick rider and roper in the Vaudeville show. While there, he met western actor and "King of Cowboys" Tom Mix who convinced him to stay and sell his high end silver and leather items in the Hollywood area. Bohlin was most active and popular in the 1930s during the height of classic westerns and manufactured saddles, spurs, holsters, and a variety of other items used in iconic westerns and by some of the eras most famous stars including Roy Rogers, John Wayne, Mae West, Hopalong Cassidy, and many more as well as Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan. Both Clayton Moore and Silver are seen equipped with Bohlin gear in "The Lone Ranger." Many of Bohlin's saddles were highlights of the Rose Parades and some can still be seen there today. Bohlin was known to be a perfectionist, and these grips are a strong symbol of his artistry. Matching visible full serial numbers are marked on the frame, trigger guard and butt, unnumbered cylinder, and assembly number "510" is on the loading gate.
