17th century Old Master European or Continental oil painting on board by a Dutch (from Holland or The Netherlands) listed artist and in a gilt frame. Plaque on the frame and signed bottom right by the artist. Since this piece is signed with his name ending in "s", it was likely painted after 1635. Depicts a peasant man in bar, tavern or other interior scene sitting on the floor with a pottery jug of mead, beer or wine and smoking a pipe. He's wearing peasant clothing and a hat with a feather.

  • Dimensions: sight 8 1/2" by 7" and frame is 14 1/4" by 13"
  • Notes: Online search info: David Teniers the Younger or David Teniers II (December 1610 – April 1690) was a Flemish painter and print maker. He was an extremely versatile artist known for his prolific output. He was an innovator in a wide range of genres such as history, genre, landscape, portrait and still life. He is now best remembered as the leading Flemish genre painter of his day. Teniers is particularly known for developing the peasant genre, the tavern scene, collections and scenes with alchemists and physicians.
  • Condition: painting itself is a bit dirty and could use a professional cleaning, frame is in excellent condition and ready to hang
